Today, I would like to introduce to you a very traditional German dish that my husband and I love to cook.

It is made of long, thin strips of beef, slathered with mustard and filled with bacon, onions and pickles.

It is yet another dish that Harry takes fond memories from his childhood from as his Mom – my mother-in-law who, sadly, I never got to meet – liked to prepare on Sundays.

When Harry’s sister paid us a visit a few weeks ago, she was all praise about our efforts to serve her exactly this dish.

Harry once had a colleague named Valentina. He remembers her for being a brunette beauty like myself (*hmph* 😉) who once brought a pot of oven soup to share at work. 😋

As he really liked the soup, he asked Valentina for the recipe. Ever since, this has been his traditional New Year’s Eve soup. 🍲

It was New Year’s Eve again the other day, mind you, and of course, we had oven soup again. Needless to say that I was happy to help him as much as I could. 👩‍🍳

I was probably a little overdressed for a kitchen assistant but I had already dressed up for our New Year’s Eve party.

In German, we have a saying which literally translates to “love goes through the stomach” and means that good food and being an accomplished chef paves the way to someone’s heart. ❤️

And indeed, I love cooking with my husband. Unfortunately, being a doll, I’m somewhat limited in what I can do. So, Harry usually does most of the work. But he also eats a lot more than I do. 😉

Today I would like to introduce you to a recipe that Harry more or less invented himself. Why only “more or less”? Well, he was inspired to some extent by “Bud Spencer’s beans and bacon”.
