Spiekeroog – A Tour of The Island (part 1)

Goodness…! 😯 It has been a month since we returned from Spiekeroog and I have not yet published a report about our stay on the island. The day after our rail, bus and ferry trip to what Harry refers to as the most beautiful island in the world, we started a nice scenic round trip through and out of the village. To find out where the island of Spiekeroog is located, please consult Google Maps. From here forth, please click…

Speaking Spiekeroog…

A fortnight ago, Harry and I went on yet another holiday trip to East Frisia which would lead us to the island of Spiekeroog and Dornumersiel on the mainland. We started out with our fourth trip together to Spiekeroog which, unfortunately, might also turn our last. There are two reasons making it unlikely that I will see the world’s most beautiful island again anytime soon: The first reason is my hubby not getting any younger and his back isn’t getting…

Spiekeroog Cut Short

As you may remember, we have had some bad luck with our holiday plans with Harry collapsing on a tram a year ago and him twisting his ankle last November. This time, it was bronchitis that my lovely husband contracted on the island of Spiekeroog which forced us to cut our holiday short. 😢 On the day of our arrival, we celebrated Liverpool winning the Premier League. The day after, Harry needed to undergo a full day of irrigation, a…

Spiekeroog Sunset’s Fine

🎼 As long as I gaze on Spiekeroog sunset, I am in paradise. 🎵 Harry never takes me out with my wheelie on the last day before our journey home. (Last year with Ludovica in Greetsiel was an exception.) That’s because in case something happens to my wheelie, he just wants to be sure he has enough time to travel home to get my replacement wheelchair and then get back to pick me up at the holiday apartment in time….

So Long, Spiekeroog…

…home from Dornumersiel, accompanied by our new friend Ludovica, we had an issue with the overcrowded replacement bus. Back in spring, when traveling home from Spiekeroog, we had an unpleasant altercation with a bus driver. This time, our ferry left Spiekeroog harbour 20 minutes late and after arrival at Neuharlingersiel harbour, our luggage was in the last container unloaded so that we missed our bus to take us to Norden central station. From the ferry, Harry had called the bus…

Spiekeroog, here I come!

It’s almost two weeks that Harry and I returned from our holiday trip to Spiekeroog – about time to publish some reviews. And what a beautiful island this is, folks…! Originally, we had planned to spend seven days at mainland East Frisia before traveling to the island. But on the tram that would bring us to Hanover main station, Harry collapsed. You can’t imagine the scare my lovely husband gave me. I was so glad when we made it back…

On to Spiekeroog…

…you don’t catch the bus at 8:15 in the morning. This is pretty much the reason why we are considering setting up our base camp for future mainland holidays in neighbouring Bensersiel where the bus situation is so much better. Anyways, we traveled on to the island of Spiekeroog after a few days, exactly a week ago. Again, we had some time to look around and enjoy a “Krabbenbrötchen” at the Neuharlingersiel harbor. That’s a bread roll with prawns and…

Father-Daughter Day at Spiekeroog

About time to continue my reports from our holiday to the island of Spiekeroog back in April. Understandably, my lovely husband wanted to spend one day hiking through the dunes to the east of the village. Unfortunately, there are no paved paths there, so I wouldn’t be able to go there with my wheelchair. Well, as you can tell from the sign, girls with cup size C or larger are not allowed to go through the dunes, anyway. (That is…

Spiekeroog – A Tour of The Island (part 2)

…that is the island of Spiekeroog. (No clue why he has to be naked, though.) After enjoying the view and resting a little, we continue on our way to the beach (red spot 11). While I can effortlessly reach the waterline in Dornumersiel in mainland East Frisia, this is not possible for me on the island. Unfortunately, the wooden walkway does not extend too far. But we still got a few nice shots done. After our little detour to the…

Spiekeroog – A Tour of The Island (part 3)

…hall again, where we started our tour two days earlier. Right next door is the Spiekeroog Island Museum. It stands a little higher up and is one of the oldest houses in the village (red spot 20). As Harry and I are not museum-goers, we move on and turn directly left into Noorderpad and then immediately left again into the street “In d’Kamp”. (“Kamp” is Low German and probably derives from the Latin “campus”). Immediately after the road turns left,…
