East Frisia, Day 8: Time to Say Goodbye

Wrapping up our holiday to East Frisia, Ludovica was going to travel with us on the same buses and trains.

Well, at least until Bremen Central Station where she would leave us and eventually catch a plane to bring her home to Italy.

The evening before, when we were sitting together to have a beer at the “Santa Maria” restaurant, she had noticed some stray cats and was wondering whether they would get food from the restaurant.

And while Harry and I were already waiting at the bus stop, Ludovica made sure the stray cats would get some food that she had bought at the small Dornumersiel supermarket the evening before.

East Frisia, Day 7: With Ludovika in Greetsiel

On Friday, the day before our journey home, we took Ludovica for a bus trip to Greetsiel.

In fact, it was my first trip to that place, too. And it turned out arguably the best day of our holiday.

Greetsiel is famous for their twin mills and a scenic harbour area and might be the most beautiful “Siel” village in all of East Frisia.

Ludovica got to shoot some photos of Harry and me and we also found opportunities to rest, have a drink and talk, for instance at the fish restaurant “de Beer Greetje”.

Harry shouldn’t have had that “Fischbrötchen” (a fish between two halves of bread roll) there, I guess, because when we went to the restaurant “Captain’s Dinner” for lunch, he wasn’t really hungry.

East Frisia, Day 5 & 6: Welcome to Dornumersiel, Ludovica!

Ludovica is a photographer from Italy who contacted us earlier this year.

She told us she had been “creating a photographic reportage project with the intention of demonstrating how technology, and specifically love dolls, are helping others not only with their state of mind, but also to find a sincere form of companionship.”

The intention would be to take intimate, true and natural photos with the purpose of photographic narration. She said she would be very pleased to travel around Europe to meet and photograph my husband and myself.

East Frisia, Day 4: Sunset

Day 4 already…
Harry didn’t feel well yesterday – maybe because of the heat wave that we had had for about two weeks. So, we chose to stay at the apartment.

We had planned to go out again and visit some of the neighbouring “Siel” villages but Harry didn’t sleep well last night, so we postponed this.

Later on, as temperatures had dropped, Harry and I went out to watch the sunset. On our way to the coastline, we met some nice cows and sheep on the dykes.

We didn’t actually get to see the sun go down because of a cloudy horizon but it was still a nice sky of honey.

East Frisia, Day 2: Accumersiel

The harbour of Dornumersiel is called Accumersiel, hence the title of this post. The reasons for this name go back in history, I believe.

We slept quite long and there are no buses from Dornumersiel on Sundays, anyway, so we stayed here to take a little stroll to the harbour and back.

I just love the maritime atmosphere of this region. I would so love to take a boat trip. Just imagine the photos we could take…

There is a good chance I will at least go on a ferry trip next year because Harry is determined to take me to Spiekeroog.
