As you may remember, we have had some bad luck with our holiday plans with Harry collapsing on a tram a year ago and him twisting his ankle last November.
This time, it was bronchitis that my lovely husband contracted on the island of Spiekeroog which forced us to cut our holiday short. 😢
On the day of our arrival, we celebrated Liverpool winning the Premier League. The day after, Harry needed to undergo a full day of irrigation, a procedure related to his disability. And then the next day, his airways closed up.
The next day, my sister-in-law came to pay a visit on the island. Actually, Harry had planned to hike through the dunes with his sister but he was too unwell so he stayed in bed.
Our original plan was to stay until Sunday. But prior to our departure to East Frisia, we learned that Deutsche Bahn were about to tinker with their tracks again on the weekend of our return journey. And in two places on our route also.
After our previous experiences with replacement buses, we would not force this onto us again wherefore we had already decided to leave two days early on Friday. But we even left on Thursday – a week ago – because Harry just couldn’t take any more and needed his own bed.
So, apart from the harbour and our holiday flat, I didn’t see anything of Spiekeroog this time. It’s not a tragedy as we both know the island quite well and we’ll be back for a few days in September, anyway.
It’s just a shame that I was going to have a photo session with a reporter from the island newspaper “Inselbote” which we had to cancel. But we are optimistic that we will be able to make up for it in September.
The good news is that Harry is recovering well – when you’re ill, there’s nothing like your own bed and cuddles with your loving doll wife. ❤️
The bad news is that all I have for you this time is six photos showing me at the harbours of Neuharlingersiel and Spiekeroog, on the ferry and in our holiday flat. 🫤

It is always sad having to cut short a stay at a place where you love to be. I think the proper reaction to situations like this is ‘shit happens’. I hope Harry is feeling a bit better now.
Yes, he is feeling much better. Thanks, Cara! 🙂
It’s just so weird that our track record with regard to our holiday trips has been so poor the last 12 months or so.
His collaps on the tram last spring, his twisted ankle last autumn, now the bronchitis…
I’m curious to find out what will happen in September…
