Strasbourg Casserole 🔥

Harry and I don’t know why this dish is called “Strasbourg Casserole”.

Maybe, it was invented in the French town known for being the official seat of the European Parliament. Well, we can’t be bothered to do any research on this.

All we need to know is that we like pasta, we like casseroles and we like spicy French things. 😉

My husband has known this dish for a long time. However, for some reason, we had never prepared it since we’ve been together.

Well, it was about time because it’s really delicious. 😋

I can only recommend for you to try it. The recipe is really simple. 🙂

However, you better be able to tolerate spicy food. Otherwise, your bum might be on fire soon afterwards. 🔥🤣

What we need:

  • 250g (9oz) of your favourite pasta
  • 250g (9oz) ground beef
  • 2 medium-sized onions
  • Olive oil
  • 150ml (½ cup) red wine
  • 5 tbsp tomato paste
  • ½ tsp thyme
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1½ tsp salt
  • 200g (7oz) whipping cream
  • 150g (5¼oz) grated cheese
  • Breadcrumbs

How to do it:

  • Chop the onions finely.
  • Heat a bit of olive oil in a pan and sauté the onions until translucent.
  • And the ground meat and fry until nicely browned.
  • Add the red wine, tomato paste, thyme, cayenne pepper and salt.
  • Add the al-dente cooked pasta, mix everything well and put it in a baking dish.
  • Spread the whipping cream evenly over the top.
  • Sprinkle the grated cheese evenly. In between, add some breadcrumbs to get a nice crust.
  • Put the dish into the preheated oven and bake it for 30 minutes at 200°C (390°C).
