Speaking Spiekeroog…

A fortnight ago, Harry and I went on yet another holiday trip to East Frisia which would lead us to the island of Spiekeroog and Dornumersiel on the mainland.

We started out with our fourth trip together to Spiekeroog which, unfortunately, might also turn our last. There are two reasons making it unlikely that I will see the world’s most beautiful island again anytime soon:

The first reason is my hubby not getting any younger and his back isn’t getting any better. It is becoming increasingly difficult for him to push me around in my wheelchair on this rather hilly island. The high dune leading to our holiday apartment alone is a really tough task.

The second reason is that the lady who used to manage our holiday apartment flat is retiring, leaving the future of the apartment in limbo with affordable ground-floor apartments in short supply on the island in general.

Accordingly, we were determined to make the best of our rather short four-day stay on the island. However, we were not very lucky with the weather as you can tell from the photo showing me on our train to Esens.

It had started to pour when switching trains in Sande and Harry regretted not having put my yellow jacket on me, which protects so much better against the rain. But in the early morning, the weather had still been nice.

In Esens, we caught our bus to Neuharlingersiel harbour only just after three (!) large groups of schoolchildren on our trains had caused delays.

The following day turned out the only day with rather fair weather and we got to stroll around a bit.

We were especially keen on shooting a new header for my website as we were never really happy with the Spiekeroog header that I had previously. We knew of a particular viewpoint that would be especially suitable for this.

The gallery below this post shows a few shots we took at that viewpoint. We ended up using this one below because the light was actually perfect when the sun was hiding behind a cloud for a moment.

What do you think? Isn’t this a nice header with the blue sky and without the handle extensions of my wheelie in the picture and my lipstick not gone pale already?

Oh, we also met an old acquaintance from last year. I still think it’s unfair that she can sit there with her boobies uncovered and I may not. 😉

Unfortunately, the weather was very changeable over the following days so that I preferred to stay indoors to play with Nici and write postcards to some friends.

However, luckily, we did manage to meet with a reporter from the “Inselbote”, the island’s weekly newspaper, to have a few photos shot.

Back in spring, we had had to cancel the appointment after Harry had gotten sick wherefore we had to leave early.

Harry expects to have a phone conversation with the reporter anytime soon to provide more information on me and then I’ll probably appear in one of the next editions. 🙂

On the day we left the island, Harry did put my yellow jacket on me. That was a good thing because the moment we left our holiday apartment, it started to pour again.

We took an express ferry for the first time, by the way. Half the travelling time, not dependent on the tides, hardly any more expensive than the regular ferry, and I could look out the window much.

I was a bit sad that I did not get to enjoy a sunset on the island.

Little did I know that I would get to make up for that in Dornumersiel. And how! You better prepare for a hot sunset photo shoot I’ll publish with my next post soon. I highly recommend for you to sign up and ask for Free VIP Access because, trust me, you don’t want to miss it. 🔥😍

But for now, please enjoy the photo gallery below from the island of Spiekeroog.
