Hubby’s Hoagie

My lovely hubby used to like going to Subway – the sandwich restaurant, not the means of transport – to grab a “Turkey, Ham & Bacon Melt”.

Unfortunately, in our parts, Harry’s favourite sub was taken from the menu a few years back and he has refused to set foot into those restaurants ever since.

Instead, he tried to reproduce this sandwich and I do think he has come up with an excellent solution. 🙂

Of course, Harry would not want to violate any copyrights or naming rights that Subway may still hold. Therefore, he named his creation “Hubby’s Hoagie”. 🙂

Frankly, we’re not sure as to whether it really qualifies as a “hoagie” – a term that my lovely hubby took from his favourite sitcom from the 80s.

But I think it sounds nice and what’s in a name after all…?! 😀

What we need:

  • A “Zwiebelstange” (literally translated: onion stick) fresh from our local bakery chain (or any other suitable long white bread of your choice)
  • 4 pieces of sliced turkey breast
  • 4 pieces of sliced roast pork
  • 4 bacon strips
  • Grated cheddar
  • A handful of iceberg lettuce
  • 1 red onion
  • Sliced pickles
  • Honey-mustard dressing
  • Pepper

How to do it:

  • Cut the onion into slices.
  • Cut the bread in half and slice both halves open.
  • Top each bread half with 2 slices of turkey breast.
  • Have them each alternate with slices of pork roast.
  • Put two bacon strips on top of each half.
  • Generously sprinkle with cheddar.
  • Put them into the preheated oven for one minute at maximum heat to have the cheese melted slightly.
  • Sprinkle with salad and onions, then distribute some sliced pickles on top.
  • Pour the dressing and season with pepper.
  • Fold the sandwich halves up.
