Hooray, we were travelling again! 😀
Of course, we were travelling to East Frisia again. This time, however, our mainland destination was not Dornumersiel even though, according to Harry, it is the best place in the world.
But we also like to go on an excursion from time to time and if you can’t catch the bus in Dornumersiel at half past eight in the morning, the day is over in this regard.
In order to have a more flexible choice of buses, we decided to give Bensersiel a chance this time.
The journey went surprisingly smoothly – no sprained ankle, no collapse on the tram, my husband arrived with me in good health. 😊
The original plan was to arrive at Bensersiel on the Tuesday after Easter, then travel on to Spiekeroog on Sunday and back home after seven more days.
But Deutsche Bahn will be tinkering with their tracks again at an inopportune time, which is why we changed our plans at short notice. 😠
When we were travelling with Ludovica back in 2023, we had to use an overcrowded replacement bus on the return journey. This time, there would have been two replacement buses with no guarantee of accessibility.
We didn’t fancy that at all, so we decided we would leave Spiekeroog two days early to avoid that stress.
Which is annoying, of course, but then we were given the opportunity to arrive a day early for our mainland holiday which, in retrospect, turned out a stroke of luck.
Also due to construction work, our train would not depart from Hanover central station as usual. Instead, we first had to hop on a bus to Neustadt am Rübenberge, which is quite a good distance from Hanover, and the bus journey there took about 45 minutes.
On Easter Monday morning, this bus was not very crowded. On a Tuesday morning, this would certainly have been very different.
While the weather was fine in the Hanover region, it was raining in Oldenburg and Sande where we had to switch trains. In Esens, we hopped on our last bus to Bensersiel. Once we arrived there, the weather got better again.
My first impression of Bensersiel was not bad. I had never been here before. I hope I’ll be able to say more in the next few days.
Today, I chose to stay indoors because it’s raining again. But I gave my husband the day off to hop on a bus and spend a few hours at his beloved Dornumersiel. 🙂
Our holiday apartment is very nice and we have okay WiFi. So, I use the time to publish this report and also prepare some future blog posts you can be looking forward to. 🙂
Please enjoy the first twelve photos of our spring break. 😉
