Spiekeroog: Ferry ‘Cross The North Sea

🎼 …’cause this land’s the place I love and here I’ll stay. ⛴️

Well, Harry and I are working on the latter but it has proven to be really difficult to find a place to live permanently up in East Frisia.

Accordingly, we had to travel back home last April at the end of a wonderful week on the most beautiful island in the world, Spiekeroog.

For our outward journey, our ferry had been switched at short notice from the “Spiekeroog II” to the “Spiekeroog I” on which the wheelchair spaces were poorly positioned nowhere near a window.

Luckily, on our return journey, we did get to travel on the “Spiekeroog II” where I had a much better spot. Even though I was sad that our holiday came to an end, I enjoy the 45-minute trip back to the mainland.

At Neuharlingersiel harbour, we hopped onto a bus to take us to Norden.

The original plan was for us to switch buses at the Norden bus station to go to Norddeich Mole where we were going to hop onto the train to take us home.

Of course, we could have as well caught our train at the Norden railway station. But hopping onto that train is way more comfortable at the Norddeich Mole railway station as the train to Hanover actually starts its journey from there.

Instead, upon arrival at the Norden, we chose to turn away from all buses.

This was due to a quite unpleasant incident with the bus driver which I will discuss in a separate post at a later date because that incident will also have an impact on future journeys as early as next month.

Thankfully, at the Norden railway station, two kind train attendants allowed us to hop on an Intercity train for the short trip from Norden to Norddeich Mole even though our rail tickets were not valid for those kind of trains. From then on, the rest of our return trip went smoothly.
