Spaghettieis 🍨

Today I’m sharing with you my favourite dessert: spaghetti ice cream. 😋

Italy is famous for their delicious pasta and ice cream. So what would be more fitting than an ice cream dish that looks just like spaghetti with tomato sauce and Parmesan?

Interestingly, although its inventor is apparently of Italian origin, “Spaghettieis” was invented in Germany and is considered a typical German ice cream creation. Outside Germany – even in Italy – it is rather uncommon.

There’s an ice cream parlour near us that serves a particularly delicious spaghetti ice cream. It is not exactly cheap, though, which is why my lovely husband thought it must be possible to make it ourselves.

It only requires a few ingredients but, above all, a specific tool that Harry bought particularly for this purpose even though, originally, it was never designed for making ice cream. 😉

What we need (for 2 servings):

  • 700ml (1½pt) vanilla ice cream
  • 200g (7oz) whipping cream
  • 1 sachet cream stiffener
  • 125ml (¼pt) strawberry sauce
  • Grated white chocolate
  • Potato ricer (tool)

How to do it:

  • Put the potato ricer and the whipping cream in the freezer for 15 minutes.
  • Put the ice-cold whipping cream and cream stiffener into a mixing bowl.
  • Whip the cream until stiff enough that it won’t spill out when turning the bowl upside down.1
  • Spoon the whipped cream into an ice cream bowl.
  • Use the ice-cold potato ricer to squeeze the ice cream into the ice cream bowl.
  • Pour the strawberry sauce and sprinkle with grated white chocolate.
  • If you like the whipped cream underneath the ice cream a little frozen, place your spaghetti ice cream in the freezer for an hour or two before enjoying.

  1. If you have an electric mixer, do yourself a favour and use it. Doing it by hand with a whisk can take over 15 minutes. 😮‍💨 ↩︎
